AllMusic Review by

Side one of this valuable but rare Herwin LP has rags performed by nine pianists ranging from Albert Benzler (on a 1908 version of "Black and White Rag") and the novelty ragtime of Zez Confrey ("You Tell 'Em, Ivories") to Seger Ellis and Fred Elizalde. Side two is comprised of eight jazz performances of rags by better-known names: Jelly Roll Morton (two versions of "The Naked Dance"), James P. Johnson, Fats Waller, Garland Wilson and Mary Lou Williams. Due to the scarcity of the material in the first half of this program, this LP is worth searching for by ragtime collectors.
