AllMusic Review by

Duke Ellington earned an Academy Award nomination for his score to the jazz-themed picture Paris Blues; while evocative of the film's time and place (1960s France, to be specific), it can't be counted among Ellington's best work, especially clocking in at less than 30 minutes in length. Still, for collectors, there's a new rendition of "Mood Indigo," and Paul Gonsalves' presence on tenor is certainly welcome; one of the film's stars, Louis Armstrong, also makes an appearance on "Battle Royal."
