This CD is highly recommended not so much for its historic value (guitarist Jimmy Raney, Stan Getz's most stimulating partner during this period, is absent) but for the consistently stimulating playing of tenor-saxophonist Getz. These radio broadcasts from Birdland are well-recorded, Getz is in top form and his supporting cast (pianist Duke Jordan, bassist Bill Crow, drummer Kenny Clarke and on three songs trumpeter Dick Sherman) is excellent. Stan Getz, whether coming up with surprising variations on "Moonlight in Vermont" or romping during the title cut, comes up with many colorful solos.
