Volume Two of Motor City Memories has more to offer than the first volume. Some interesting stuff -- the Falcons, with Joe Stubbs singing lead, do a rousing "Just For Your Love." Ty Hunter and the Voice Masters shine on "Lonely Baby," which was later licensed to Chess Records for national distribution. Members of the Downbeats later became the Elgins ("Heaven Must Have Sent You") on Motown's VIP label; they're represented here with the Berry Gordy Jr.-penned "My Baby's Back." "Been Such a Long Time," by the Five Quails (Cleveland natives), is a gorgeous ballad, beautifully led by a Bobby Lester- (Moonglows) -sounding tenor; it was originally released on Harvey Fuqua's Harvey label. The most interesting sound here is an early David Ruffin side, "I'm In Love"; the song is so gospel-laden you'd think he cut it in church.
