Crafting wistful electro-tinged pop narratives from shimmering electronics and memorable pop hooks, Small Sins is the vehicle of frontman Thomas D'Arcy. The band's sophomore effort, MOOD SWINGS, takes a giant leap forward in terms of production, aided in part by post-rock studio guru John McEntire. Contrasting cheery, upbeat pop songs against dark lyrical ruminations on loss and retribution, Small Sins offer a fresh take on synth-based ensemble rock that makes unexpected detours toward the ragged acoustic rock of Neil Young.
