Two years after their last record, Richard Jobson and company have forsaken Magazine/Banshee guitarist John McGeoch and Waiting for the Floods' bombast, and are trying something more soothing. What doesn't appear to be much on early listens turns out to be quite a lot, with its insistent muted acoustic and quiet sax behind Jobson's emotional heartburn. The B-side, "Tender Is the Night," is less successful but similarly quiet. The more stripped-down approach is a better vehicle for Jobson's full-throated vocal.
