AllMusic Review by

The earliest of the small combos Louis Armstrong led from the late '40s until his death in '70 was by far the finest. It included at one time or other such greats as Jack Teagarden and Barney Bigard, and offered Armstrong challenges and an incentive to do more than just coast and mug for willing audiences. This anthology features several of their best tracks, and is valuable because the group didn't do nearly as much recording as it should have.
