AllMusic Review by

For a band whose career lasted less than three years, the Sex Pistols left behind a remarkable number of live recordings, especially surprising considering they were banned from performing live in most of the U.K. when they reached the peak of their fame. This installment in Link Records' Live & Loud series of concert recordings from various U.K. punk notables features an edited and re-sequenced version of one of the Sex Pistols' best-known performances -- their January 1978 concert at Winterland in San Francisco, the final date of their haphazard American tour and their last show with Sid Vicious, who would be dead just over a year later. Since the Winterland show was broadcast live on FM radio and videotaped for TV broadcast, it has been circulating in authorized and semi-bootleg form for years, and ultimately Live & Loud is one of many choices available for fans wanting to experience the Sex Pistols' shambolic last stand (at least it was their last stand until they reunited in 1996).
