Les Embarras du Quotidien is a very interesting release from melon Galia, a Belgian quintet of multi-instrumentalist and multi-talented performers. Their repertoire runs from soft rock to hard rock with echoes of lounge rock and club rock. They even cover some experimental and avant-garde territory. They are at their best when they use the harmonizing vocals of Aurelie Muller and Delphine Sigrist to compliment Thierry De Brouwer's strained affectations. In fact, Sigrist's breathy voice is quite sexy and much more appealing than De Brouwer's. in spite of that -- or perhaps because of it -- this CD is quite strong. It is very refreshing to hear a European ensemble using their native tongue. (The liner notes are also in Belgian French.) This rare CD is worth the effort to find.
