Anderson's voice here doesn't have the girlish edge it once had (no shock, given that she was 51 at the time of these sessions), but she sounds great in a mature way, reminiscent of K.T. Oslin or Mary-Chapin Carpenter. Many of these re-recorded hits benefit from Anderson's slightly darker vocals; the contemporary production here makes the originals sound vaguely quaint. The new version of "Rose Garden," for example, sounds about fifty times bigger than the actually early-'70s track--which was, after all, mixed to sound best on a mono car radio.
