AllMusic Review by

LANCO's 2016 debut EP is typical of debut EPs in the 2010s: it's intended as an amiable introduction to an artist who seems to have considerable commercial potential but also acts as a teaser for the inevitable album that's yet to arrive. Extended Play arrived in April 2016, nearly two years before the January 2018 release of the full-length Hallelujah Nights, but it did its job: it got "Long Live Tonight" into the Billboard Country Airplay Top 40 and established the band as amiable, anthemic bro-country-rockers with a touch of a sensitive side ("Greatest Love Story"). All of the EP is bright, shiny, and friendly, lacking the smirk and swagger of 2010s bro-country but nevertheless leaning in that direction. Apart from "Trouble Maker," which percolates to a bit of a looped blues boogie, there isn't much acknowledgment of the R&B-inflected styles that swept through country music in the back half of the 2010s, which might make these four songs sound slightly musty in the context of 2018, but as a stand-alone EP, it's sturdy and cheerful radio music in search of a playlist.
