Juliette Gréco is one of the great French chanteuses who emerged from the shadows of the Sparrow, Edith Piaf. She has performed cabaret and art songs for decades. This collection on the Chansophone label showcases 20 of her classics, penned by the great songwriters of the era including Jacques Prévert, Joseph Kosma, Charles Aznavour, Gilbert Bécaud, and others. This is a stellar set featuring the many different sides of Gréco, including her interpretations of written texts by Jean-Paul Sartre and Robert Desnos (set to music by Kosma), show tunes of the Folies Bergères, and, of course, torch and cabaret tunes that brought her throaty passionate voice to life. This is a wonderful way to introduce a listener to Gréco's genius.
