This 3" CD-R is presented in a nice wallet-sized cardboard slip and limited to 200 copies. It began to circulate among aficionados of lowercase or microsound music in mid-2001. Allport plays percussion, although both the words "plays" and "percussion" can be deceptive. He studies minute details of his instruments, caressing them, touching them -- making sweet love to them, careful that the neighbors don't hear. The five short pieces (a total of under 15 minutes of music) feel like a work in progress, an exploration of possibilities rather than an affirmation of intent (something the artist admits to in his press release). For the common listener it will sound like a hoax, but avant-garde music fans know this is the direction the most daring artists were pushing toward at the turn of the millennium.
