AllMusic Review by

This compendium of 20 songs recorded by Frank Sinatra in the early days of his career consists mostly of radio recordings done with various big bands and orchestras, including those of Tommy Dorsey and Harry James, the latter of whom gave him his first big break in 1939. Sinatra's famous versions of "All or Nothing at All" and "Imagination" are included alongside lighter fare like "Ciribiribin" and "It Only Happens When I Dance with You," and while his subtler, more nuanced '50s vocal style has yet to appear, these performances possess an energy and vitality that make it obvious that, from the start, that the singer was a force to be reckoned with.
