John Pizzarelli's first solo album features his earliest vocals. Pizzarelli never had a strong voice, but his charm and likable personality usually overcame his vocal shortcomings. He is accompanied by his father Bucky Pizzarelli's trio of the period (with Bucky on guitar, pianist Russ Kassoff and bassist Jerry Bruno) as he sings such numbers as "Route 66," 'Straighten Up and Fly Right," Michael Franks' "Popsicle Toes" and "I Like Jersey Best." Surprisingly, John only plays guitar on two of the ten numbers. An interesting early effort.
