Sylken is a project ensemble founded by Eric Hopper. His most frequent collaborator is Steven Sauve. They are both talented synthesists, and Hopper is also an accomplished guitarist. Their debut CD, Illusions of Light, features Arnold Sprogis, Joe Galifi, and Wally Jericho as guest performers. It also features some of the best use of a rock & roll guitar on an ambient recording. Hopper's slick guitar riffs surround the deep atmospheres and take everything to deeper zones. This guitar work could make onions cry -- it is that good. It will remind experienced e-music listeners of Tangerine Dream's Virgin-era albums. Hopper is no imitator, however. These atmospheres and soundscapes are totally unique and original. This disc will appeal to fans of Vir Unis, dreamSTATE, the Circular Ruins, and Exuviae.
