The ten songs that make up the bulk of I'd Be Named were recorded during the sessions for the Boys Star Library's If I Was Born a Girl; "Nancy" was the virtual title track on that album, with its line "If I was born a girl, I'd be named Nancy." This collection of outtakes showcases the band's novel and playful approach to songwriting. The songs could easily make up the bulk of another full-length CD. Instead, I'd Be Named was released soon after If I Was Born a Girl at a discounted price. The most impressive songs are the orchestral "Billy," the female/male vocal-rich "Liz," the synthesizer-based "Pearl," with its differing tempos, and the remixed "Nancy." The disc includes two unlisted bonus tracks, including a cover of The Sound of Music classic "So Long, Farewell."
