This LP from French RCA contains pianist Oscar Peterson's first 16 studio recordings. Heard at the age of 19 and 20 in his native Montreal, Canada, he performs in a variety of trios and quartets with local musicians. His style was very swing-oriented at the time and Peterson's early reputation was partly due to his powerful boogie-woogie basslines which he would soon abandon. Although unknown outside of Canada, Peterson even at this early stage was quite a phenomenon. This is the first of two LPs tracing his important early years and is worth the search.
