The all-female orchestra Diva, led by drummer Sherrie Maricle, plays a fairly conventional brand of big-band jazz. This release sticks to standards (other than Flip Phillips' "The Claw"), and includes such numbers as "I Feel Pretty," "Limehouse Blues," a five-song "Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald," and "You and the Night and the Music." Maricle drives the band and features a variety of soloists, including altoist Karolina Strassmayer, trumpeters/flügelhornists Jami Dauber and Barbara Laronga, and baritonist Lisa Parrott. Nothing all that unusual occurs (except for the ballad tempo given "How High the Moon"), but the band swings well and displays plenty of spirit.
