After a whirlwind tour of South America, the Carribean, and the whole of the United States, Pete Rodriguez returned to record his third album for Alegre. Gathering songs from Venezuela and Puerto Rico (as well as the Little Anthony hit "Tears on My Pillow"), Yo Vengo Soltando Chispas could well be his best album. The orchestra sounds rejuvenated and genuinely ecstatic on the openers "Soltando Chispas" and "People Want to Know." After a short respite on the Little Anthony cover (probably not the best choice for material), the band gets together and hits new highs with "Pa'lla Va" and "Arranca en Fa." Overall, Yo Vengo Soltando Chispas is a nearly relentless fusion of a great band and the solid leadership of Mr. Rodriguez.
