French musette accordion (with its very strong Italian roots) was, till very recently a grossly neglected splendor of 20th century urban music. Greatest Classics of the Musette Waltz 1930-1945 is a superb compilation -- unsurprisingly, since its artists were a mini-generation-and-a-half of giants: nine of them in all, from a vieille garde represented by Charles Péguri and Émile Vacher to the phenomenal Gus Viseur, who played musette with the best besides helping to create the accordion-jazz style called manouche. Gorgeous music, wonderful mastering, fine notes.
