Does the name Bon Lozaga ring a bell--or maybe a Gong? Though he's an alumnus of Pierre Moerlen's ensemble from the EXPRESSO II sessions, Bon's nom de plume might not stir up cobwebbed memories of Gong's percussive fusion days. But FULL CIRCLE COMING HOME, his first solo album, just might.
Bon has taken the Moerlen vision a step further, supplanting the vibes and marimbas with fret-hot licks and ghostly washes of synthesizer. It is also not fortuitous that the accompaniment of drummer Vic Stevens and bassist Hansford Rowe provides a rock-bottom backbone. From lovely ballads ("Going, Going, Gong") and the sparkling title track to abrupt shifts of inward mood and texture ("Lunar Lunacy"), these 10 instrumental gems abdicate Bon from his self-imposed exile and thrust him right back into the progressive jazz arena.
