Forties' Guys & Dolls guarantees tracks from the top 25 crooners of the era, and does little to disappoint with its track listing -- an enjoyable trip through the decade when big-band singers began striking out on their own. Beginning with an early-'40s performance by Frank Sinatra is a good indication, and broadening the selection with Judy Garland and Billy Eckstine is another. The rest of the compilation is an ace blend of career-making tracks from jazz vocalists (Sarah Vaughan, Mel Tormé, Ella Fitzgerald) and pop singers (Doris Day, Vic Damone, Dinah Shore, Perry Como), as well as performers equally talented in both areas (Nat King Cole, Kay Starr).
