AllMusic Review by

An obscure figure from the late 1920s, Robert Cloud was a saxophonist (playing tenor, alto, and clarinet) who had high ambitions as a composer-arranger. All of his recordings (including a couple dates that he was probably not on) are included on this intriguing but not particularly essential CD. Cloud is heard on eight numbers (seven being his compositions) with the Ross De Luxe Syncopators, a group from Savannah, GA in 1927. The Jacksonville Harmony Trio (two vocalists and pianist Sugar Underwood) perform four of Cloud's songs and he is most likely on dates with the Q.R.S. Boys (a trio featuring King Bennie Nawahi on steel guitar), the Georgia Jumpers, the Grand Central Red Cap Quartet (gospel music), and the pompous singer Rollen Smith plus two numbers put out under his own name. None of the music is all that memorable and very little is known of Robert Cloud's ultimately unsuccessful career. So in this case, the packaging is flawless but the vintage music is quite often forgettable.
