Greg Weeks is the man behind this curious moniker. Here he's a one-man show with gently massaged acoustic guitar and affecting shudder vocal (and some rather ornate, '60s keyboard tones: Mellotron, which sounds like a flute, Moog synth, Hammond organ, and straight piano). Inspired by Leonard Cohen and Nick Drake -- and covering a more modern practitioner, Cat Power -- Weeks' 16 songs actually live up to such formidable company. He doesn't quite have the scope of Drake, whose arrangements augmented the spare setup a little more frequently than these 16 songs do. But as a writer and singer, Weeks weaves shivering tapestries, and his voice only wavers when it helps him. His lyrics measure up, and several times listening to this late at night I thought him a ghost in my house. This is really well done. (Weeks, c/o Secret Sister, 31 Bond St., N.Y. NY 10012)
