AllMusic Review by

Fine 10" LP showcase for some members of the first generation of Calypso performers to record. Cut in Bermuda -- evidently as singles, possibly even for 78 rpm release -- the range of artists includes such legends as Macbeth the Great & His Creole Rhythm Boys doing "Mary Ann" (evidently the original of what the Easy Riders turned into the American folk hit "Marianne"), plus Kingsley Swan, Celeste Robinson, and Sydney Bean. The repertory also includes such early gems of the field as "Donkey Want Water," "Bulldog Don't Bite Me," "Brown Skin Gal," "Pigs Knuckles & Rice," "Out de Fire," and "Women Will Rule de World." The sound is surprisingly good as well, given the age of the recordings, and this is one that long ago should have been the core of a great compilation CD.
