Zabel Muziek is a Dutch label defined as "a small-scale platform for independent, uncompromised music." It was founded in 1997 and since this compilation released 22 references. It specializes in the productions of local post-rock bands. Starting with cassettes and coming to vinyl, they eventually released CDs, and this collection is on a CD. However, its sleeve is a carton hand-assembled one, making the CD a nice object. Upon hearing the collection, the names of bands such as the Ninety Day Men, Engine Down, and Mogwai pass through one's mind -- good references indeed. There is no need to highlight any of the names of the bands, for they are all interesting to discover. Another good point of the label: instead of only advertising for their bands, this includes songs by other unsigned groups, an open-minded collection from an open-minded label.
