Listeners who enjoy the Welsh Eryri bagpipes and yet desire a somewhat more traditional approach to them than Hamish McDoodle and the Kicking Keltic Kaos Krew's in-your-face style will be pleased that the artist from Bangor, Wales, known as McDoodle in the other group, and styling himself Paddy the Piper here, has also released Eryri Bagpipes. It's intriguing to compare the more classical-style solo pipes arrangement of his original composition "Caernavon Castle" with the much rowdier live Hamish McDoodle version, for instance, or his two different takes on "Bagpipes From Hell" also. Yet whichever style he's presenting, he does an effective job with it, showing his traditional capabilities on "The Hills of Machrech" and the Slavic-influenced "Celtic Vodka" as well. So it's just a taste, in the style from his roots, yet it's certainly one that will encourage fans to appreciate this artist's diverse talents on his distinctive instrument.
