Although Art Hodes was beginning to record a lot around this period, this LP was his first full-length solo piano date since 1942. The emphasis for the session is on the blues. Hodes does perform a couple of slight departures, too -- "Buddy Bolden's Blues" and "Miss Otis Regrets." The pianist's reputation soared during this era for his ability to put lots of feeling into slow, traditional blues; this set is a strong example of his talents in that area.
