AllMusic Review by

This out-of-print Chiaroscuro LP features the superb stride pianist Don Ewell with two different small groups. Four songs (swing era standards) are performed with tenor saxophonist Buddy Tate, bassist George Duvivier and drummer Cliff Leeman while the other five tunes (which date back to the 1920s) are played in a trio with Leeman and clarinetist Herb Hall. Ewell is heard throughout in prime form, whether soloing in a style influenced by Jelly Roll Morton, Earl Hines and Fats Waller or accompanying the horns.
