One of ten volumes in the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, Chicken Soup for the Soul: Meditate features contemporary instrumentals by Michael Christopher, David Karr, and Jai Bunito Aeo. Unlike these performer's work on the other volumes of the series, here the trio turns in minimal, ambient, electronics-based pieces that lend themselves to the concentrated relaxation that is at the heart of meditation. Some of the pieces, such as "Nature of Love" and "Morning Dew," are barely more than dreamy synth pads with a sprinkling of pianos and wind chimes on top, while others, like "Snowflakes of Joy" and "Eastern Suite," have more prominent melodies and structures. The album also features "Meditation," a brief track with Chicken Soup for the Soul creator Mark Victor Hansen reading an inspirational story. A thoughtfully-made album, Chicken Soup for the Soul: Meditate is a well-done album of meditation music that works equally well as a part of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, or on its own.
