AllMusic Review by

This valuable LP collects together a session led by vibraphonist Milt Jackson for Savoy in 1949 (featuring a septet that includes the pioneering jazz french horn of Julius Watkins and tenor-saxophonist Billy Mitchell), a sextet set led by drummer Kenny Clarke that has similar personnel (including Watkins, Mitchell and the addition of trumpeter Kenny Dorham) and two songs from a date led by singer Wini Brown. Throughout Jackson shows why he was considered the first important vibraphonist to emerge after Lionel Hampton and Red Norvo. This LP from 1980 is much more coherent (consisting of complete sessions and two alternate takes) than the more recent Savoy CD reissues.
