A look back over the third era of Pizzicato Five, when Maki Nomiya joined the group as vocalist, and up to the point when member Keitaro Takanami left, turning a long-ago quintet into a duo (possibly due to a falling-out between the two songwriters, there is not one Takanami song represented here). Not content with a sampling of hits, Big Hits contains several mixes not available anywhere else: a Towa Tei remix of "Catchy," a radical reworking of "On the Sunny Side of the Street" by tk, and a live studio recording of "Happy Sad" with Cornelius' backing band. There's even an orchestral medley of Pizzicato Five's greatest hits, which is just this side of cheesy. Compared to Made in USA, the first Matador release, this is a much more coherent introduction to the group for beginners.
