AllMusic Review by

This collector's LP features the little-known 1938 Ben Pollack Orchestra, a band most notable for the inclusion of cornetist Andy Secrest who -- nine years after he filled in for Bix Beiderbecke with Paul Whiteman's big band -- still sounded a bit influenced by Bix. The music is essentially Benny Goodman-style swing with an emphasis on original riff tunes (including "Rug Cutter's Delight" and "Stomping at the Motel"); there are six vocals among the 16 selections.
