AllMusic Review by

This is one of the more interesting and appealing of Autry's compact discs, covering his earliest hillbilly and blues numbers, including "High Steppin' Mama" and "Blue Yodel No. 5," as well as alternate versions of such standards as "You Are My Sunshine" and "South of the Border" (in versions utterly different from those on the various Sony compilations) and pop numbers like "Blueberry Hill" going right into the end of World War II. The 25 songs run from the late '20s through the mid-'40s, and the sound is generally excellent, even on the older tracks, although "That Silver Haired Daddy of Mine" and a handful of others are pretty rough.
