AllMusic Review by

An homage to her favorite love songs of the mid-20th century, À l'Eau de Javel is the second full-length studio album from French blues-folk chanteuse Anaïs Croze. The former Opossum frontwoman's follow-up to 2008's The Love Album features 13 cover versions of largely unfamiliar romantic numbers from the likes of Rina Ketty ("Sombreros et Mantilles"), Marie Dubas ("Le Tango Stupefiant"), and Eliane Embrun ("Si J'Étais une Cigarette"), alongside an a cappella rendition of "Le Petit Cochon en Pain d'Épice"; the lead single, "Je N'Émbrasse Pas les Garçons"; and a collaboration with jazz musician André Manoukian on the album's most contemporary offering, Tina Turner's "Private Dancer."
