A true classic tearjerker ballad, "Love Hurts" was recorded by several artists, from Gram Parsons to Nazareth (who scored a huge hit with it in the mid-'70s). The Everlys' version, though, is paramount. It's a slow-tempo, melancholy ballad. The lyrical imagery (such as "Love is like a stove/burns you when it's hot") is absolutely striking. A single for the Brothers that criminally only reached number 41 on the pop charts in the autumn of 1960.
