This UK acoustic folk rock ensemble comprised Ray Wright (b. 27 April 1949, London, England), Trevor Sandford (b. 30 June 1952, Cookstown, Northern Ireland), Peter McMum (b. 10 November 1951, Salford, Greater Manchester, England), Judy Slater (b. 1953, Glasgow, Scotland; fiddle) and William Thorp (b. 30 April 1952, Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England). They were formed at Cambridge University in 1971, and turned professional in 1974, performing at various colleges, folk clubs and festivals. That same year Hillclimbing For Beginners was released, and Harvest Time followed in 1976. A five-week tour of east and mid-west USA preceded their demise in 1976. William Thorp, an exceptional violinist, has stayed in music, working first for the Welsh National Opera, then the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and more recently in numerous chamber groups with especial interest in baroque and early music.
