A distinctly Bay Area coagulation, former Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann and Journey guitarist Neal Schon are at the center of the TriChromes, an improvisation-driven quintet launched in the autumn of 2001.
The band came together from several outfits, including the Dead and Journey, as well as the Sy Klopps Band, who provided singer Sy Klopps (born Herbie Herbert), guitarist Ralph Woodson, and bassist Ira Walker. The band's sound is an adult blues-rock that often veers into fusion jamming in live performances. While the band's early set lists were made up primarily of cover material, they worked to create an album's worth of original songs, with help from former Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter.
A mostly live EP was released in early 2002.
