Artist Biography

A highly talented group of UK country dance musicians, New Victory Band comprised Pete Coe (melodeon) and Chris Coe (hammer dulcimer, duet concertina), Roger Watson (tuba, banjo, harmonica; Muckram Wakes) and Helen Watson (keyboards, whistles; Muckram Wakes), John Adams (trombone, fiddle, melodeon, tenor banjo, snare drum, harmonica; Muckram Wakes) and Suzie Adams (banjo; Muckram Wakes), Ian Wordsworth (drums, percussion) and Linda Wordsworth (tap dance). Pierce Butler (Electropathics) replaced Ian Wordsworth and the band occasionally featured Mel Dean (concertina) and Peadar Long (saxophone; Kitsyke Will). They were one of those legendary bands that did much to loosen the woolly pully and tweed skirts image of English dance.

The New Victory Band’s sole album was reissued in 2000 on Pete Coe’s Backshift Records.
