From the San Francisco Bay Area, the Congress of Wonders comedy team made a couple of albums reflecting the concerns of the late-'60s/early-'70s hippie counterculture: drugs, sex, and political/social satire. Like the Firesign Theatre and National Lampoon, they used the studio as a tool to enhance their sketches rather than simply record them for posterity, incorporating sound effects and tightly edited overlapping dialogue. They weren't quite as sophisticated, and were a little less subtle (and more stoner-directed) in their brand of humor, sometimes framing it within mock commercials, soap operas, and plays.
