Artist Biography

Boasting four different birth locations (Nigeria, Mauritius, St Lucia, Jamaica), the Scientists Of Sound are based in England, and comprise J-Blast ‘The Weak Rhyme Wrecker’ (ex-J-Blast And The 100% Proof), DJ Aybee ‘The Underground Nigga’, Kool Sett and Cherokee ‘Mr Mibian’. A colourful press release claimed they were originally one person, travelling through the universe, when they were split into four component parts and spread around the globe. After adapting the personas of indigenous creatures, they reunited in England as a result of influencing their parents to travel to the UK. This unwieldy ethos was continued in their live shows (a choreographed approach often compared to Leaders Of The New School) and embraced in the way each member as regarded as a different anatomical appendage of the central being: J-Blast the mouthpiece, Kool Sett the heart, etc. Signed to the Underdog’s Bite It! label after debuting with a 1992 EP, their first release for their new employer was 1994’s ‘Bad Boy Swing’.
