Join the right Beach music band and never an idle weekend shalt thou have. There are players, however, that drop in and out of this popular and enduring southern coastal music scene, one of the stack of musicians named Richard Jones among them. He seems to have briefly been a member of the Holiday Band, a beach music enterprise led by producer and vocalist Mike Taylor. One of Taylor's and this group's best-known songs is the macho "I'm Man Enough," quite a typical message in a genre that thrives on old-fashioned lovey-dovey, among other lyrical themes.
The title of the 1999 recording that Jones took part in is Shotgun Boogie, suggesting quite different styles such as house-rocking music or Western swing. Yet anyone hearing such strains on this record would be best advised to go clean the sand out of their ears; this is beach music-lite, plain and simple, similar in style to some of Taylor's competition such as Jim Quick and the Coastline Band or the Men Of Distinction. Like just about North Carolina rhythm and blues performer who can sing in tune for more than one set straight, Jones has also performed with the Band of Oz.
