New Orleans' Raj Smoove took up DJing in the early '90s, while in his early teens, and became increasingly active. Throughout the years, he held down a residency at New Orleans' House of Blues, maintained a regular presence on the city's airwaves, and toured with the Cash Money label. In the early 2000s, he began to gain more notice for his production work. He made beats for Mac's WWIII, Mannie Fresh's The Mind of Mannie Fresh, and Lil Wayne's Tha Carter.
