Placing himself as a one-man ensemble of rock & roll and |techno-industrial, Mattias Johansson took the alias of Project Grudge after spending a number of years in various bands in Malmo, Sweden. With the self-titled description of "heavy plastic," Johansson began Project Grudge in 1998 after gathering a number of synthesizers, computers, and guitars to create a heavy layer of electronica with an array of lyrics filled with conspiracy and paranoia. After self-releasing two demos, Medea Records debuted Project Grudge's first full-length, entitled Grudge, only a year after Johansson went solo. Between You & Reality marked his first major-label release for Orchard in early 2001.
