Euro-rock band New Invisible Joy formed in Pittsburgh, PA, at the end of 1997. The foursome of vocalist John Schisler, guitarist Mike Gaydos, bassist Evan Handyside, and drummer Brian Colletti played local clubs for two years before issuing their independent debut, Pale Blue Day, in March 2000 on their own Goldwish imprint. Their soaring, expansive sound, reminiscent of such Brit-rock outfits as Coldplay, Starsailor, and Suede, earned them a regional buzz that resulted in showcases at such events as NXNE and the Global Entertainment and Media Summit. The band issued a limited-edition, self-titled EP in May 2002 while playing colleges and clubs throughout the Northeast; a third independent release was slated for spring 2003.
