b. Ghana. After living for a time in the USA, percussionist Tsiboe moved to the UK. Through work with the London-based Dade Krama, Moiré Music Drum Orchestra, Oumou Sangaré, and Ali Farka Touré, Tsiboe established a reputation that would eventually lead him to a solo career. However, the reception afforded Asem Ni! Trouble Dat! was not a kind one, many reviewers wondering at his efforts to incorporate western styles. Tracks such as ‘Kokofe Hene Mbabut’ revealed him to be a master drummer, yet other songs were neutered by poor production, or found the assembled cast of musicians overreaching themselves in search of innovation.
