New Zealand pianist/composer Matthew Davidson is both a solo recording artist as well as a teacher. Davidson began his music career at the age of 15, when he performed his original song "Echoes From the Past" on Radio New Zealand, which he followed up a year later with performances at the Wellington Jazz Club in his homeland. This resulted in Davidson playing further shows around the world, including Canada and the United States, as he focused on classical, contemporary, early jazz, and ragtime music. Davidson's original compositions touch upon several genres, both non-musical and musical: including book, music, and lyrics for musical comedies, chamber music, improv works, theater pieces, plus electronic and orchestral music. Davidson has been issuing albums since the early '90s, including such titles as 1991's Space Shuffle and Other Futuristic Rags, 1994's Graceful Ghost, 1995's Voodoo Queen: Piano Rags, Jazz, & Blues, 1996's Stolen Music and Sugars Nightmare, and 1997's Blue Forest Mass.
