Taking their name from an ancient Japanese battle axe wielded by the Yamabushi, or "warrior monks," Masakari are a crustcore/D-beat quintet from Cleveland, OH, inspired by usual suspects like Discharge, His Hero Is Gone, and all manner of Japanese hardcore. Active since 2006, the group patiently dug its way out of the underground trenches and was eventually "discovered" by the Southern Lord label, which released their debut album, The Prophet Feeds, in 2010, to much critical acclaim.
