Mary Bella is a soprano who has been featured in recitals, operas, and concerts. A native of Edmonton, Alberta, she pursued her musical studies at Memorial University of Newfoundland and the University of Toronto. Further instruction occurred at Canada's McGill University and London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She also spent time in Aldeburgh, England, at the Britten-Pears School for Advanced Musical Studies.
Bella's recitals included appearances with tenor Michael Colvin, to whom she is married, as well as performances for the Toronto Wagner Society and the Aldeburgh Connection, among others. Her opera roles included Tiny in Paul Bunyan, Le nozze di Figaro's Susanna, and La finta giardiniera's Serpetta. Her starring role in L'incoronazione di Poppea drew rave reviews and had critics describing her voice with words like "seductive" and "rich." Among her other credits are La bohème, Idomeneo, Bartered Bride, Eugene Onegin, and Turn of the Screw.
At the University of Toronto, the soprano participated in a benefit performance for the humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders. Bella also was featured on a holiday album, Christmas on Main Street, for the series Classical Kids.
